Some Cool New Features on NileGuide

New Features, NileGuide Updates — By Josh Steinitz on June 5, 2008 at 2:50 pm

As of June 4, 2008, we’re excited to introduce several great new features.

First, we now provide rich neighborhood information on the key neighborhoods of interest to travelers in each destination we serve. In any given destination, you’ll find a map at the bottom of the Overview tab with pins showing the location of key neighborhoods, along with rollover information describing what’s interesting or unique about them. For example, check out our coverage of Washington, D.C. neighborhoods on the DC overview tab. Similarly, on search results pages (Food, Lodging, Nightlife, See & Do), you can rollover the neighborhood name next to each point of interest to display its location on a map as well as a description. The goal is to provide much more context to travelers who may not be familiar with a destination, giving them a better idea about what they should expect in each area. We’ll be rolling this feature out across our destinations, so it may not be available right away in any given place…but it will be soon!

Second, in response to customer feedback, we’ve simplified our homepage to enable our users to see, at a glance, all of the destinations we cover (organized by region), and to quickly find the place they’re looking for.

Finally, we’ve upgraded our Trips search tab, enabling our users to filter trips by author and trip type, along with a more attractive and intuitive design that’s consistent with the rest of our site.

Stay tuned for our July release, which will include support for the Internet Explorer 6 browser (something many of you have asked for), as well as dramatically improved personal profile functionality.
