Top 5 Sustainable Travel Blogs
Top 5/10 Lists — By Nicole Lerner on January 27, 2009 at 1:44 pmHere at NileGuide, we think it’s important to recognize the impact we all have on the environment. One of the many benefits of building a custom guidebook/itinerary on our site is that you only add what you need, instead of wasting all that paper in a bulky guidebook. We’ve also highlighted some ways you can use the tools in our trip planner to save some green and limit your carbon footprint. Since we don’t exclusively cover green travel though, we thought we’d highlight some great sites that do:
- Traveling The Green Way. “Earth friendly ideas for your travels”
- Go Green Travel Green. “Travel tips for the eco-conscious traveler”
- Green Globetrotter. Sharing green developments in the travel industry.
- Ecotourism: Taking Pictures and Leaving Footprints. Reflections on the eco-tourism industry.
- Matter Network – Travel. “News and ideas for a sustainable world”
Bonus: Since we can never stick to five, here are a few honorable mentions to check out:
- Wend Magazine. Find great eco-friendly products, events and more in their greenery section.
- Green Maven. Discover green and sustainable websites, travel or otherwise, on this green search engine.
- Treehugger.com. Have a look at the travel section of this site dedicated to driving sustainability mainstream.
- Whole Travel. Find sustainable accommodations around the world, and follow their blog for green travel news.
- Planeta.com. Check out this global journal of practical ecotourism.

Thanks a lot for putting my blog there (Ecotourism/taking Pictures and Leaving Footprints), means a lot to me. I think you could add on the list Planeta. com, written by Ron Mader. This is a must.
Thanks for the mention,

Hey nice info.. very interesting post!
My company is Destinations in Design. We provide superior continuing education programs for architects and interior designers. Also we have discovered that companions that are not design professionals, enjoy the journeys as musch as the designers themselves. We explore architecture and design as expressions of cultural dynamics. Providing access to important destinations, and immersing ourselves in other cultures we promote learning from seeing, and understanding from experiencing the built environment. Our experienced instructors and staff create unique journeys that will stimulate your creativity.
Recently we returned from a trip to the Incas & Conquistadors. A true test of sustainbility. We return home and took with us an exciting educational experience, and a new group of friends, and the memories of a trip of a life time. Please visit our blog at destinationsindesign.blogspot.com.
Also, we are working on a 12 day journey exploring the Baltic Sea for 2010. It will include Copenhagen, Visby, St Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm all the cities at the forefront of design. You will experience what it means to see first-hand what lies in the future and integration in sustainable design at all levels.
Please feel free to contact me at 1-866-443-0864 if you have any questions about my blog or company. Or please email me at fredo@destinationsindesign.com.
