We here at NileGuide HQ have known about this for awhile, but are now very happy to get to share this news with you – we have acquired Localyte’s platform and community!

For those of you unfamiliar with Localyte’s platform, we encourage you to check it out and play with the service. As part of the acquisition, we will be integrating aspects of Localyte’s technology, their fantastic community of member contributors, and their iPhone app, Pocket Sherpa! Soon, Localytes functionality will be integrated into NileGuide, allowing us to provide you with even more to-the-minute, original content.

“We’re committed to creating high-quality original travel content by tapping into expert local knowledge around the world, and this acquisition helps us accelerate that strategy,” said NileGuide CEO Josh Steinitz. “In addition, by offering Localyte content contributors access to the larger NileGuide audience, we’ll ensure their recommendations create real value through visibility to hundreds of thousands of new users.”

Likewise, Localyte founder Guillermo Baensch commented, “We’re excited to bring the Localyte model to a great company with best-in-market travel planning tools and offer the Localyte community exposure to a large and growing audience on NileGuide. We believe NileGuide is at the top of the class of the emerging crop of web 2.0 travel players, and we’re excited to be a part of their growth.”

We encourage you to check out Localyte and stay tuned for other updates on this exciting partnership.
