Titanic Awards: Biting Wit and Expert Commentary on World’s Worst Traveling Tales

While we here at NileGuide try to strike a balance between interesting places to visit, deals and overall tips, sometimes we just need a laugh at some of the more interesting travel “horror” stories. When we do, we like to check out the Titanic Awards.

Named after the ill-fated Cunards Line cruise ship that sunk in 1912, the Titanic Awards were recently profiled in Travel and Leisure, where the editors noted their snarky taste in covering mishaps like the British Airways flight that ended up filling every single loo. We like it as much for that as the guest profiles from well-known travel writers on their “worst of” experiences.

It may be a bit too much sarcasm and biting wit to take in on a regular basis, admittedly, but the depth of experience that the Titanic Awards can bring to bear on interesting topics like “Worst things to do on a plane” is impressive. For the record, they chose attempts to join the Mile High Club, lack of personal hygeine after lavatory use, and other unsanitary choices.

If you want to take advantage of the site’s unique humor in the offline world, you can pick up the editor’s book, “The Titanic Awards”. You can also try your own hand at rating your experiences with various providers by heading to their webpage at titanicawards.com.
