Canadian Club’s “Adventure of a Lifetime” Could Net You $100,000

“Have YOU got what it takes to win the race for the case?” the video eggs you on. The “Adventure of a lifetime,” it insists. And finally, “The original hunt is back.”

In an Amazing Race to find a case of booze, Canadian Club — distillers of whiskey — are staging a comeback of a decades-old contest. Starting in 1967, the company started hiding cases of whiskey — first eight globally and then, in 1976, another six focused in the US. More cases were hidden over the years including one in the Galapagos Islands in 1972 (which was never advertised) and another at the North Pole for a Christmas special (which has never been found).

In 1982 the company hid three more cases, but again never advertised them. Finding the first of these three cases — dubbed “the most exciting ‘hide’ of them all” — is the objective in their latest contest, which began on May 17. Contestants sign up on their website and start completing challenges for Round 1. There are six challenges, each one worth 10 points if you successfully complete it. In addition to the points, you will get a clue as to the location of the hidden case. 20 bonus points await those who can guess the location based on these clues.

If you manage to rack up 50 points after Round 1, you will be eligible for Round 2 — which begins July 9 — in which you will upload a video explaining why you deserve to be chosen for the big hunt. 30 videos will be selected by a panel of judges, and then the public will vote in four Americans and four Canadians to partake in the adventure.

From the website:

The Americans will be competing against the Canadians in the adventure of a lifetime, exploring exotic locations, trekking through uninhabited and unusual lands, racing the clock to solve the clues and find the elusive case. All 8 contestants will receive a nice $12,500 each, and did we mention, the final winner of the race for the case will scoop $100,000!

Already found cases include locales such as Mt. Kilimanjaro, Great Barrier Reef, and the Lewis and Clark trail. Yukon Territory, Loch Ness, and Robinson Crusoe Island are a few of the places where a hidden case has yet to be found.

Larry Hedrick found his case buried beneath a fire pit near the Lost Dutchman’s Goldmine. “I could tell by the way someone had laid the twigs across the top that this wasn’t an Arizona fire pit. You could tell it had been made by a bunch of Eastern infidels, so I started diggin’ and found the case buried about two feet down,” he told Travel + Leisure.

The contest is open to Canadian and US residents over the age of 21, with the exception of Californians. If you’re curious about the exclusion of the Golden State, read this.

Good luck!
