Would you be starstruck if, instead of the usual update from a flight attendant or captain, a multi-platinum music artist came on the PA system and addressed you and your fellow passengers – IN SONG? On a recent flight Delta flight from Minneapolis to New York, passengers were treated to a performance by hip-hop star Kanye West who was seated in the first class cabin. According to the USA Today Travel article, he did a little (clean) rendition of “Gold Digger” and and “The Good Life” and that passengers “freaked out.” We had some questions about his impromptu vocal stylings– namely, would you enjoy it?
Our NileGuide staffers had varied opinions on the subject:
Said one of our curmudgeonly content editors:
“Please, Flight Attendant, I do not understand what you’re saying. Is this about the in-flight movie? Dinner? Will I be getting dinner soon? I’m so hungry… Seat-belt on or off? ON or OFF?!”
Replying to that quip was a slightly more measured response from one of our more sensible staff members:
“This guy clearly thinks he’s God’s gift to airline passengers, but I’ll be darned if I know what he’s singing. Do I have to pretend to enjoy this? Are those bodyguards???”
And finally, our slightly star-struck marketing guru had this to say:
NOW I AIN’T SAY’N SHE’S A GOLD DIGGER… **dancing in the aisles** …Ya KANYE!! I’m taking my phone OFF airplane mode so I can quickly Tweet/Facebook this pic. Best in-flight entertainment EVERRRRRrrrr!
As for the passenger “freak out”, if you didn’t watch the clip in the link above, check it out here. Would you be one of the ecstatic ones?
