You look at the things money is spent on in the world and it’s no wonder why there is such a deficit in most countries. Evidently, scientists are making millions and spending millions on research that non-scientists already know about. The latest scientific revelation: jet lag may cause stupidity. You don’t say? According to Wired, a study presented at the Annual Society of Neuroscience showed that jet lag not only makes you tired, but also dumbs you down.

Is this something people really didn’t know? Of course, like most studies, it took experimenting on hamsters to come to this revelation. It’s unclear whether or not the hamsters were already stupid before being used in the study, since judging from Kia commercials, hamsters are pretty savvy. According to the article, the study found that hamsters experiencing jet lag had half the normal rate of new neuron birth, as well as deficiencies in learning and memory.

Not only does jet lag make you temporarily stupid, but it could cause long-term stupidity. The study showed that even after 28 days of going back to a normal schedule, the hamsters showed signs of stupidity. So if you’re experiencing jet lag, you probably should take about a month off of work. We’re preparing a study for next year’s neuroscience event that shows that drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels could impair your judgment.
