Hotel Missoni Kuwait is Now Open

Right after I finish writing this article, I’m going to try to figure out how I can get to the new Missoni Hotel Kuwait which opened for business on March 1st. Maybe it’s the bath tub that looks like an egg, the cafe devoted to Italian coffee and chocolate, or that wearing one of their bathrobes will be my only chance at wearing Missoni – I don’t know, I just need to go there.

Missoni Kuwait is located in the Symphony building in Kuwait City’s shopping district, Salmiya. This is the second hotel designed by Rosita Missoni of the famed Missoni fashion line in partnership with Rezidor Hotel Group. The original Hotel Missoni is located in Edinburgh, and two new hotels are in the works in Oman and Brazil slated to open in 2012.

From their website, the hotel’s decor features a lot of, “Gold. Mosaic. Beige. Turquoise. The colors of sand and sea.” Judging from the pictures, there is far more gold than beige and it looks like their color palate extends far beyond just that. The rooms, restaurants, and event spaces are filled with lots of round edged furniture, bright colored walls, patterned furniture, and lots of shiny things.

Soon the hotel will also operate a “Six Senses Spa” with “Traditional and Middle Eastern Treatments.” They also advertise a pool with multiple bars, although alcohol is illegal in Kuwait.

I searched prices for May, and advanced booking in their least expensive room is around $360 USD, which is similar to what Hotel Chatter reported last week. Including airfare, a stay at Missoni Kuwait may be a little out of my price range but please send me a postcard if you get there.
