“Peekaboo” Hotel Bathrooms All The Rage These Days

Facebook. Twitter. FourSquare. These days, everyone needs to know what everyone else is doing, at all times. Advancing technology is turning us into a voyeuristic society, even more so than before (sitting on a bench with a take-away coffee and people-watching goes back centuries). Is nothing sacred anymore?

Well, if you take a look at the “peekaboo bathroom” tag at Hotel Chatter, you could come to the conclusion that, no, nothing is sacred anymore. It’s apparently become a trend for hotels to install glass bathroom walls. This is important. You know how hard it is to find the bathroom in hotel rooms, right? Recall all those times you searched in vain, opening up the myriad doors, trying to locate the toilet before an emergency happens? Those days are a thing of the past.

OK, we jest. There’s usually about one door in a hotel room, and it always leads to the john. According to this post, the design of the peekaboo bathroom is intended to allow more light into the room and to give the illusion of more space. You may be wondering what happens when you need a little privacy. Housekeeping walking and seeing you through the glass while you’re sitting on the throne is a major faux pas. This is where SmartGlass comes in. You may have seen this in an episode of CSI; the glass, at the flick of a switch, turns the electronically-switchable surface opaque.

Other methods of adding privacy are also used, like button-controlled shades. Shower away!
