This Place Exists: Mount Roraima
Active/Outdoors, Central & South America, Eco-Travel, Offbeat, Travel News — By Rachel Greenberg on May 6, 2011 at 2:59 pmIf you thought Four Corners was impressive, wait till you hear about Mt Roraima. The massive mountain stands at the meeting place of Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana, and sits in Canaima National Park. Its massive cliff face rises 1,500 sheet feet above the forest floor. Although the ascent is insane, once you’re up the 12 square miles atop the plateau are some of the most incredible in the world. Because it is so isolated, the flora and fauna are unlike anywhere else in the world – including thousands of unique species.
And we’re not the only ones who’s sense of adventure was tickled by the discovery of this mountain. Mt Roraima inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write The Lost World and Pixar borrowed its incredible shape are propensity for unique species for their film, Up.
