What Would You Do for a Room Upgrade?

Travel News — By Candice Walsh on June 9, 2011 at 9:44 am

Joie de Vivre hotels are offering a fun new way to get a room upgrade, and all you have to do is sing your high praises.

Their hotels in Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Venice Beach and Los Angeles are giving away one upgrade per day by encouraging the bravest guests sing at check-in. The singer gets to choose from a number of songs, including Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” and the Eagles’ “Hotel California,” and then they sign their hearts out for a daily prize of a room upgrade. Singers will also be recorded and uploaded to YouTube and Facebook to win the ultimate winnings—a two-night stay at each hotel in southern California.

Don’t worry, if you’re late checking in, you’ll still be eligible to win the grand prize. You can even vote for the winner at the Joie de Vivre Facebook page.

And as per usual, these hotels aren’t the first to offer such fun deals. Don’t we all just love a good competition? Thailand’s Centara Hotels & Resorts recently launched a photo contest on its Facebook page where guests submit their own family holiday photos to be voted on by the public in the hopes of winning a luxury holiday. Winners have already been announced, but the contest certainly generated some mass attention.

A number of hotels also ran contests during the Royal Wedding hullaballoo, but the one hosted by the Sheraton in Fort Lauderdale might have taken the cake…bridezillas were invited out to participate in the Battle of the Beach, an opportunity to win a full wedding completely hosted by the hotel. Event space, food, beverages, butlers, an open bar, you name it, Sheraton was offering it. And all it took was a full day of nerve-wracking competitions.

So would you have the guts to sing for a hotel filled with strangers? Would you go neck-to-neck in a cutthroat competition for a free wedding? Whatever the case, we dig the creative contests!
