What Happens When the TSA Gets Groped?

My, how the tables have turned! 61 year-old Yukari Miyamae was recently taken into custody after giving a TSA agent her own special pat down.

After refusing both the body scanner and a pat down, Miyamae apparently grabbed the breasts of a TSA agent and twisted them. Yikes! Miyamae was then immediately arrested on potential charges of sexual assault. Miyamae, a frequent traveler and self-employed translator, author and radio producer, had told the agent she preferred the metal detector over the more invasive scanner or pat down. That clearly didn’t go over well with the agent.

This will surely gain some radio fodder for Miyamae, huh? She has yet to speak up on the matter, only Tweeting that Fox News and other press have inaccurately represented the situation.

She was reportedly freed from any possible felony charges, but could still face local misdemeanour charges.

And now Miyamae is being called a local hero, especially on her Facebook Page, and has even been likened to Rosa Parks. Some people are even suggesting that the whole thing was “racially motivated.”

We’re conflicted, however: is Miyamae really a hero? A martyr? Sure, she’s made some big headlines and made a move bolder than most of us could ever make…but will it make a difference? According to her lawyer, Miyamae was feeling overwhelmed and scared, and she reacted out of natural instinct. But would a calm, more rational approach actually have been more helpful?

We’re undecided…we already know how little the TSA cares about all the negative public attention. But we’d love to know what you think!
