The colors of Monument Valley strike hard and fast, much like the rocks that seem to jut out directly from the middle of the Earth. These natural carvings, located on the southern tip of Utah and the northern edge of Arizona, make for some of the most beautiful views in the western states.

The red color comes from iron oxide that has been exposed to the elements. The earthy feel of this area is enhanced by the fact that it lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation.
