LAN, Latin America’s largest airline, has smartly decided to focus on the LGBT travel market. They’ve launched a site dedicated to LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) travel in South America, with at least two very good-looking men on the front page.
Besides jetting down to Rio for Carnivale or Pride Week in Buenos Aires, the site provides information about gay marches and festivals throughout Latin America, and news articles about challenges LGBT folks face around the world.
Thought LAN may be the first Latin American airline to launch a targeted website, other airlines in the US have led the way.
Southwest has a GLBT Outreach page, while American Airlines offers a Gay And Lesbian Travel site. AA is consistently applauded by the gay community as best airline, according to Jaunted, and they even hold competitions to determine the best gay city in the world each year (Tel Aviv won last year).
Once you have your airline picked out, how do you find out the best hotels and inclusive packages for gay travel? If you are looking for a B&B or resort just about anywhere in the world, check out Purple Roofs. Out Journeys will take you on exclusive spiritual and wellness trips throughout India. If Scandinavia is on your list, Zoom Vacations offers tours there.
Even Orbitz dedicates a page to gay and lesbian travel.
Still, kudos goes to LAN in opening up welcoming travel to some of the best cities and spots in the world.
