What about Santiago Apóstol de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Pomata, Peru? Perhaps, the masterpiece of Andean Mestizo Baroque. When my wife and I were there in 1997, there was only another American couple who walked in, shrugged and walked out. We spent an hour. Off the beaten path unless you’re crossing Lake Titicaca from Bolivia to Peru. Then, it’s on the road to Puno and the train to Cuzco. As The Michelin Guide would have it, “Ca merite le detour.”
