5. Berlin: Tentsation and Spandau City Camp
Sadly, Berlin’s wildly popular Tentstation, which was five minutes from Central Station and featured a pool, outdoor movies, and BBQ, closed this year, as the landlord of the property decided to build a luxury spa on the former campsites. The group behind Tentstation is currently looking for a new site, however, and hopes to reopen in 2013.
In the meantime, Spandau City Camp doesn’t seem like a bad alternative. Located on an island between two rivers, the campground has the obligatory fixture of any good German institution: a beer garden. It’s also just about 10 minutes away from public transportation.
