Golden Zone Attractions in Acapulco

Taking in the Top Ten Things to Do in Acapulco's Golden Zone could fill up an entire vacation week. The area comes closest to fulfilling the dream visitors have of Acapulco: hotels tightly-packed together line golden sandy beaches fronting on blue waters.

Most people come to Acapulco to play on the beaches so the first Top Ten Things are #1, Playa Icacos; #2, Playa Condesa; and #3, Playas Hornos y Hornitos. Icacos is one of the first beaches that you come to when you descend the Carretera Escenica, the scenic highway that becomes the La Costera. Condesa is popular with LGBT travelers but also with groups of young people - most of the popular "let's get drunk" bars are located along Condesa Beach. Hornos and Hornitos attract more families because the surf is gentler there and the beaches are wider.

Near #7, the Convention Center, there are a number of attractions. The Club de Golfe, #6, is Acapulco's municipal 9-hole golf course with offers lower greens fees than the courses in the pricey Diamond Zone (next to the course is the city's tennis club, also open to the public).

Across the street are Cici Acapulco Magico, #4; and the Centro Cultural de Acapulco, #5. Cici is Acapulco's best water park and the site of a most popular attraction: Swim with Dolphins. Just around the corner, the Cultural Center is set in a lovely park and has numerous galleries, and performance spaces. The cafe doubles as a fine crafts store.
