Our choice for a quick taco (service is speedy) and cold beer when you happen to be near the Diana fountain and suddenly find yourself peckish.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

If this El Fogon is too crowded, try the one farther south on the Costera across from Casa de Cultura.

    Description:

    • On one busy stretch of the Costera in Acapulco stands El Fogón, a Mexican chain restaurant popular with locals, where strolling troubadours stop by and play requests. About 20 ceiling fans struggle to keep the humid air moving throughout the restaurant, which is open to the street on two sides (a good people-watching perch).

Enchiladas Verdes is a local favorite – three baked tortillas are packed thickly with chicken and covered with green tomatillo sauce. The house specialty is Molcajete, a tray to be shared by two or more people of grilled beefsteak with all the trimmings: enchiladas filled with chorizo and rancher's cheese, nopal cactus slices, avocado, onions and house-made tortillas.

Service is quick and efficient and the waiters handle the challenge of large groups of people very well.

El Fogon is a convenient restaurant for guests at Hotel Emporio or Casa Condesa.
