Ancienne Halle aux Grains (L')

Description:

  • This Italian-inspired building was built between 1759 and 1761 by Georges Vallon, the town architect. The north façade features a sculpture by Chastel representing the Rhône and the Durance Rivers, the two sources of Provence's prosperity. By the south face lies Place Richelme with its typical Provençal market, beneath a façade richly decorative with motifs of fruit, olives and grains. The great historical significance of the trade in wheat and cereals is represented in this allegory dedicated to the fruits of nature.
