Hotel Le Manoir

• This architecturally interesting site -- a 19th-century stable until the present owners transformed it into a hotel -- includes paths weaving through turn-of-the-20th-century gardens with outdoor furniture under shade trees. The decor in the midsize-to-spacious guest rooms is old-fashioned -- with antique and provincial furniture -- yet up-to-date, each different from its neighbors. The government rates the Ariana higher because of its superior facilities, but the Manoir has more French charm and personality. You can order breakfast or dinner on a terrace bordering the garden. Most of the public and guest rooms open onto terraces.
