Description:
The Star Inn -- the premier place to stay in Alfriston -- occupies a building dating from 1450, though it was originally founded in the 1200s to house pilgrims en route to Chichester and the shrine of St. Richard. Located in the center of the village, its carved front remains unchanged. The lounges are on several levels, a forest of old timbers. We infinitely prefer the rooms in the main building, which have far more character even though they've been altered and renovated over the years. Out back is a more sterile motel wing, with studio rooms. Bedrooms vary in size and style, but each one in the main building is well maintained with an old-world aura.
