- You can rent a bike in Amsterdam and cycle along the IJsselmeer, Holland's biggest lake, to the former island of Marken, where time seems to have stood still. You can walk around the village and the harbour, where you can also find plenty of pubs and restaurants. Try the (raw) herring!
