Amalfi is a fun town to explore for the whole family. For summer fun, there are a variety of beaches to choose from right in town or located nearby. At the large Marina Grande Beach you'll be right in the heart of the summer action with all the beach volley and splashing you can image. For very young children, head to the tiny La Marinella Beach, which is a popular spot for local families in the morning hours. The water is calm, cool and the swimming area is protected. If your kids love boats, take the boat service to the nearby beaches of Duoglio or Santa Croce Beach for a day outing.
A family hike up into the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills) is a wonderful outing on a sunny day. Pack a picnic to enjoy alongside the cool mountain stream at the top of the valley, and enjoy a dip in the refreshing water on a hot day. Enjoy the natural scenery, and along the way see the ruins of Amalfi's ancient paper mills. On the way back, stop by the Museo della Carta where the kids can learn about the paper making tradition in Amalfi. They'll even get a chance to see how a sheet of paper is made!
Exploring the maze of medieval streets in Amalfi is a great way to burn off energy (and calories from all that gelato for adults!) for the whole family. Start at the Supportico Rua and find your way up and down the side streets to the Piazza dei Dogi, which is a great spot for café break. It's much quieter and has no traffic like the larger Piazza Duomo, so the kids can kick about for a bit while you kick back and relax.
