Centro Storico
Centered around Piazza Duomo, the Centro Storico (Historic Center) is the heart of Amalfi where you'll find shops, restaurants, cafés and the beautiful Duomo of Amalfi. From the Piazza Duomo, follow Via Lorenzo d'Amalfi, the main road of Amalfi, which is lined with more shops, restaurants and tempting places to enjoy a gelato or cappuccino. Continue up the street, which changes names to Via Pietro Capuano, and look for the covered Supportico Rua runing parallel to the main street. In the Middle Ages, when the Canneto river ran down what is today the main street of Amalfi, this vaulted street was the primary passageway along the river and an important market area in town. Amalfi is a maze of tiny medieval streets, but the secret is that most lead to or from the central Piazza Duomo. Follow the Supportico Ferrari, a vaulted passageway, that leads from Piazza Duomo to the small and charming Piazza dei Dogi. Or look behind the grand staircase of the Duomo and follow the slightly hidden Supportico Sant' Andrea Apostolo, which leads under the church to the Piazza Municipio. © NileGuide
