NileGuide Expert Says:
Step back in time on a tour through this historic paper mill and learn about Amalfi's papermaking tradition.
Description:
Although little known today, Amalfi is one of the first locations where paper was produced in Europe. Amalfi traders in the 13th century brought back the knowledge of papermaking from the Arab world, and began producing fine quality paper in mills constructed in the Valle dei Mulini above Amalfi. You can learn more about Amalfi's papermaking tradition at the Museo della Carta (Museum of Paper). Housed in an old mill, on the tour you will see tools and machines and learn about the process of making paper.
