When Amalfi's main street is crowded during the summer, locals walk along this cool, covered walkway instead.

  • Description:

    • Running parallel to Amalfii's main street Via del Duomo from Piazza dello Spirito Santo, the Supportico Rua is a covered walkway that was once an important street of Amalfi in the Middle Ages. While it may seem hard to believe while walking down the narrow, dark walkway today, it is important to remember that in the Middle Ages the Canneto River ran down through Amalfi to the sea along what is today Amalfi's busy, shop-lined main street nearby. Walking along the Supportico Rua, look and see where many shops opened onto this covered road, which was once an important shopping area in town.
