Swallows and Amazons

Description:

• Swallows and Amazons is run by New Englander Mark Aitchison and his Brazilian wife, Tania. The company's core trip is a 7-day package that spends a day in Manaus and then sets off up the Rio Negro to explore the territory around the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Transportation is on company-owned traditional wooden riverboats, while exploration is done either on foot or by canoes. Accommodations are either on the riverboat or in a comfortable but basic lodge near the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Maximum group size on any trip is eight. Cost for any of the trips is about R$280 (US$140/£70) per day if you book directly. These trips run year-round; check the website for timing and availability.
