Description:
By moving from an antiseptic perch atop the steel-and-glass Havengebouw (Harbor Bldg.) tower and settling down across the IJ waterway, this authentic restaurant gained a user-friendly setting even as it lost its harbor views. Traditional Japanese food and teppanyaki are served. No matter which you choose, the food's both excellent and modestly priced, as Japanese restaurants go -- which together make the somewhat onerous trip to undistinguished Amsterdam North worthwhile. Osaka has borrowed the Indonesian rijsttafel concept. Order one (menus are named after various Japanese cities), and you get a little of this, a little of that. Otherwise, the menu is standard Japanese, with sushi among extensive seafood listings. In the teppanyaki section, chefs are fast on the draw with carving knives and salt and pepper shakers.
