Restaurant Greenwoods

Restaurant Greenwoods - Amsterdam
  • Cuisines: British
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

    Best English breakfast in Amsterdam.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

At the weekend, arrive when it opens at around 10:00 to make sure you get a seat before the breakfast rush.

    Description:

    • Opened by an Australian backpacker over 20 years ago, this tiny cafe has become an Amsterdam institution. It is particularly famous for its freshly baked scones, cheese cake and Irish soda bread open sandwiches. Because of its popularity and the fact that everything is produced to order, there can often be a queue. It has around 20 seats crammed into a tiny, but cosy space, so if you're not the type who likes sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with the person next to you, then it's probably not the place for you. It does get very busy, particularly at the weekend, and you often need to move chairs around to squeeze yourself in. If you do get a place, everything is fresh and reasonably priced. Huge sandwiches are around Euro 5.

In the summer there's a small terrace outside, with great views over the old Singel canal.
