Restaurant Vapiano

• If you're looking for well priced, dare I say it, cheap Italian, in a central location, with modern but atmospheric surroundings, then Vapiano is the place to head for. It's part of an Italian fast food chain, but this is the first one in Amsterdam and very popular with a mixed crowd of students, families, and passers by. The food is all prepared freshly, but because it's effectively self service, they pass on the cost saving to the customer. Don't get the wrong idea though – self service doesn't mean plastic tables and bad background music. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and tables come complete with fresh pots of herbs and other condiments to personalize your meal.

  The menu has everything from salads to pizzas and home made pasta to desserts. The open kitchen allows you to see everything being prepared. On entering the restaurant you receive a chipcard which everything is charged to, so you only pay at the end of your meal The house wine was of a reasonable quality and great value. Don't let the liter sized bottle put you off!
  

  And finally, they've also got an outside balcony area and a large terrace with good views over the city.
