Fast Flying Ferry

Address:

Pontplein, De Ruyterkade
1021 Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Description:

Fast Flying Ferry runs a hydrofoil service from Amsterdam to Velsen at the coast. The journey takes around 30 minutes. Tickets are available from the Amsterdam Tourist Office or the Fast Flying Ferry desk located behind central station to the left of the ferries to Amsterdam Noord. You are allowed to take your bicycle onboard but space is restricted to 20 bikes, so in the summer months or on warm days it's advisable to get your ticket in advance as many people choose this option.

From the terminal in Velsen you can take the bus to IJmuiden beach or if you have your bike with you, it's a 15 minute bike ride to a choice of beaches, including Bloemendaal with its hip and trendy beach restaurants and clubs and Zandfort which is more family oriented. If you want a bit more peace and quiet, head through the sand dunes on one of the paved bike paths and you'll come out on the more peaceful, less commercial beaches. Maps for a nice, free cycling tour along the coast are available on board.

An off-peak return ticket, off-peak, costs Euro 8.25 for an adult and Euro 3.10 for a bicycle (2011).
