Rotterdam is just a cool place full stop for shops, its a very modern city with a big city centre and lots of the normal shops that you get all over Europe,my favorite street is OUDE BINNENWEG and NIEUW BINNENWEG,there are some smaller independent shops there for clothes and music-a real good vintage clothes shop called Episode for one- aswell as plenty of nice bars,coffeeshops..
If youre spending the night there check out WATTS or THE WATERFRONT for live music,dj's etc or even OSHEA'S irish pub. Also just off NIEUW BINNENWEG is the STAYOKAY hostel, running parralel to Nieuw Binnenweg is their version of China town.
On saturday there is a huge market at the very end of the high street or if you get a tube to BLAAK,there you will also find the CUBAS BUILDINGS which are quite nice to look at alongside the crazy looking libary.
for coffeeshops if youre into the weed...NEMOS,AMIGOS,PLUTO which are all situated on or just off Nieuw Binnneweg..try the hazes on offer, lekker lekker!!!!
Also worth checking out is the waterfront area get off the tube at BEURS and walk 2 minutes, there is also a funny little golden mile with golden stars and handprints in the pavement, people like David Bowie etc....ha!
alternativly get on a train and go to DELFT or DEN HAAG,both of which are nice places with quite alot to do.
HAVE YOU BEEN TO AMSTERDAM BEFORE??
WELL I HOPE I HAVE BEEN SOME HELP TO YOU AND THAT YOU HAVE A GOOD VISIT,IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK AWAY.

Recently I went to Rotterdam for the first time. I really really enjoyed having diner in the Euromast. (www.euromst.nl) If you go to the top when it's still light, it's awesome to slowly see Rotterdam change at night. When you enter the restaurant, go to the left, passed the bar and then you'll see 2 seats on a slightly lower level. If I remember well, the large couches are white (leather??) For these tables, you don't need a reservation. The food was ok, too :)
Enjoy your visit to the Netherlands!

Pick up a copy of the brochure 'rondje Rotterdam' at the Tourist Office near the Central Station. You'll see all the hightlights! A perfect way to discover the city. You can also download the leaflet on http://www.rotterdam.info/uk/Brochures/Rondje_Rotterdam.asp (in English). Enjoy! And remember Breda is only 35 min. away by train from Rotterdam, so maybe you can combine your visit to Rotterdam with my lovely hometown

I would reinforce Eva's idea of the round walk of Rotterdam. I've done it a couple of times and you really see a lot of Rotterdam. I wouldn't recommend the harbour boat trip. It was a bit long and boring. But it's nice to walk over the bridge and have a drink at Hotel New York, the original starting point of cruises to America.
