Description:
Amsterdam is full of hotels, but many fill up quickly so book early. You can stay right in the city center in the heart of the action, or in quieter parts of the city. If you're looking for luxury you have the Krasnopolsky Hotel, located right across the square from the Royal Palace. At the other end of the spectrum, St. Christopher's Inn is a hostel right in the heart of the Red Light District. If staying on land is too conventional for you, you can even live on water in the Botel.

This hotel comes with a mystery: a plaque out front marks the spot of the death of famous jazz musician Chet Baker--however, no one knows how he fell from his window!

Description:
The recently renovated 116 room 4-star hotel Arena is located in a quiet, residential part of Amsterdam, within walking distance of Artis Zoo and the Royal Tropical Institute. The city centre of Amsterdam is less than a 10 minute taxi or tram ride away. Alternatively a very pleasant 30 minute stroll through the historic Jewish district will also bring you to the centre. There are a number of excellent restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. The hotel is housed in a converted Roman Catholic orphanage from 1890 and the rooms are in-keeping with this minimalist heritage. Complete with timber roof beams and wooden floors, rooms are individually decorated by young up-and-coming Dutch designers. In contrast the public spaces have monumental marble staircases, cast-iron banisters, stained-glass windows, marble columns, and original murals which have all been faithfully restored.
The hotel complex also houses a restaurant and a nightclub in the old chapel.

Description:
Where better to experience a city on the water than on a boat-hotel? The Amsted Botel is popular largely because of its location and rates, and because of that extra thrill added by sleeping on the water. This moored cruise-liner has 352 beds in cabins on four decks, connected by an elevator. The bright, modern rooms are no-nonsense but comfortable, the showers small. Be sure to ask for a room with a view on the water, to avoid the uninspiring quay. To get here, turn left out of Centraal Station, pass the bike rental, and you'll see it floating in front of you.

Description:
Living it up at the Hotel Krasnapolsky is no great trick. The "Kras," as it's known locally, began as the graceful Wintertuin (Winter Garden) restaurant, founded in 1866 by a Polish tailor turned entrepreneur. Victorian ladies and gentlemen sipped wine and nibbled pancakes beneath the hanging plants and lofty skylight ceiling, where breakfast and lunch are now served. The Kras was Holland's first hotel to sport parquet floors, central heating, and electric lights. Since then, it has spread amoeba-like over four buildings, including one with a Japanese garden and another with a Dutch roof garden. The rooms' sizes and shapes vary considerably. Some are small, while others have been tastefully reconverted into individually decorated apartments. The state of the rooms varies, too, from worn to recently renovated. Since there are so many rooms, you'd do best to have a look at yours first and to retain an option to change if it's not suitable. The street alongside the hotel leads straight into the Red Light District, which may not be everyone's idea of the perfect route for a casual evening stroll.
