Description:
The only major hotel on the island is 5km (3 miles) west of the airport, right on the beachfront. Standing on the site of a resort built in the 1970s that never opened, this is one of the most remote places covered in this guide, and a favorite of the yachting set, who enjoy the hospitality of the owners who built the complex by hand. The hotel offers motel-like, very basic rooms with private porches and either a garden or an ocean view, plus a small bathroom. Come here for tranquillity, not for pampering.
You can arrange to go inshore fishing, deep-sea fishing, or bonefishing (there's a tackle shop). In addition, you can set up snorkeling excursions and secure taxi service and jeep rentals. There's a beach barbecue nightly; the house specialty is lobster, and many attendees arrive by boat. If you're visiting the island for the day, you can use the hotel as a base. Call and they'll have a van meet you at the airport.
