Chateau De Brindos

Description:

  • This is one of the most architecturally and culturally unusual homes in the southwest of France, with a history entrenched in the Jazz Age. Built by American heiress Virginia Gould in 1920, it occupies 11 hectares (27 acres) of inland park and garden. With a facade inspired vaguely by the architecture of Spain, and an interior loaded with architectural remnants such as fireplaces and staircases from the Gothic age, this is the most romantic stopover on the Côte Basque. Rooms are spacious, with antique furnishings and modern fittings; bathrooms have tub/shower combinations. Fishing on the private lake can be arranged. The superb restaurant overlooks the lake.
