I was determined not to like the Sheraton Ankara, with its tower surging arrogantly into the Ankara sky (a visual companion to the obtrusive nearby Hilton). But the bright atrium lobby, tastefully smattered with an eclectic mix of traditional and designer furniture, immediately won me over. The trendy yet inviting touches include plum-colored leather bucket chairs with stainless-steel feet and a mezzanine lounge that doubles as an art gallery.
The rooms are what you'd expect from a Sheraton, and even a little more, with spacious Turkish marble bathrooms and plush room decor. There are a few "smart" rooms for business travelers equipped with high-tech phones and faxes; modem lines have been installed in every room. The rooftop sun deck transforms itself into a movie theater on summer nights, and the hotel even serves Sunday brunch.
Faciliities: 3 restaurants; 3 bars (only 2 in winter); outdoor swimming pool; tennis court; squash; health club; Turkish bath; Jacuzzi; sauna; concierge; tour desk; car-rental desk; business center w/secretarial services; shopping arcade; salon; 24-hr. room service; massage; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; executive floor
