Description:

  • Home of Samuel Chase, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, this historic home (built from 1769-74) is outstanding for its brilliant interior design, exquisite hanging staircase, and intricate moldings. It was designed by William Buckland, architect for the Hammond-Harwood House across the street. Only the first-floor rooms are on view, as the house continues to be a home for retired women. It's well worth the $2 charge to see the house and formal gardens. Hours are quite limited, so call ahead.
