La Fonda de la Calle Real

Description:

  • This is the place to come in Antigua for authentic Guatemalan cuisine, but don't expect a quiet, laid-back joint. This place has become so popular, in fact, that they now have three branches in town -- all within a block of one another. The menu features a range of classic Guatemalan dishes from pepian, a spicy chicken dish, to kac ik, a filling turkey soup from the Cobán region. All of the branches do a good job of re-creating a sense of colonial ambience with wood furniture and tall-backed chairs. I like the second-floor seating at the original outlet listed below, but the location at 3a Calle Poniente, #7, is much more spacious.
