Sand Sea Resort

• Just down the beach from Rayavadee, along Railay Beach, the compact Sand Sea is a good little bungalow resort, a few feet from the busy beachfront. Flowering bushes surround its lawns, and simple rattan-walled bungalows line the garden paths. Most rooms have air-conditioning and offer the comfort you'd expect from a basic hotel room (including screened windows to stop the many mosquitoes). There's a small pool, a small but well stocked supermarket, a (somewhat unreliable) Internet station, and a good restaurant right on the busy beach. You can step right out front and join a game of soccer, rent a kayak, or go snorkeling by the offshore cliffs. Overall, this is a good, simple choice, though it's horribly hard to book in high season.
