Owners Kuki and Sara Retzlaff rebuilt this small resort into the finest on Savai'i, and one of the best in Samoa. The property faces west across Manasee Bay, with a view of the sea and mountains beyond. Lagoto means sunset in Samoan, and I saw the most awesome sunset of my life from here. Kuki and Sara house most of their guests in 10 traditional Samoan fales, whose turtle-shaped ceilings are intricately stitched together with coconut sennit. Half directly face the sea, while the others are set back but still have a lagoon view. There's also a house with one apartment upstairs, another downstairs, both of which have kitchens. The central building, also a Samoan fale, houses a bar and very good restaurant, which has tables outside beside an infinity-edge swimming pool, and a spa called Bodyworks, where you can get various massages and beauty treatments. This is one fine small resort.
