Description:
- Judging by the vast amount of churches and religious institutions on the Island, Catholicism is taken very seriously by Arubans. The Lourdes Grotto is a tribute to this religious stronghold, named after the landmark in France, and features a 1500-pound statue of the Virgin Mary. Although it was constructed to honor the 150th anniversary of the sighting of the Virgin Mary in France, it has become more of an attraction for the Chartreuse parakeets that reside in the area as leaving religious trinkets in honor of the statue is strictly prohibited.
