Description:
With its massive old shade trees, English tea gardens, and elegant, international restaurant, the Winchester is Ashland's premier historic inn. Though it styles itself as a country inn, it's actually right in town within a few blocks of the theaters. The rooms are very comfortably furnished with antiques and modern bath fixtures, including sinks built into old bureaus in some rooms. I prefer the upstairs rooms, which get quite a bit more light than those on the ground floor. There are also rooms in the building next door. If you want a bit more space, stay in one of the eight suites, two of which are in the old carriage house. The suites also come with TVs and DVDs. Throughout the year, special events are held here, including winemaker dinners, nine-course tasting dinners, and Christmas Dickens feasts.
