  • Business conferences and deal mergers are happening more and more in Athens; hotels are noticing and doing things to attract companies by providing what the modern men and women of business need in terms of meeting spaces, work centers, internet, a supportive staff, and transportation in and out of the city.

For business people who aren't wanting to spare expenses on comfort or luxury, the InterContinental, Hilton, Royal Olympic, Divani Caravel, and Grand Bretagne are all five star hotels that have high preference. Of these, the InterContinental, is known throughout the world for their excellence and our most highly recommended hotel for business travel: six hotels, 543 rooms, a sauna and workout lounge, shuttles to the city center and meeting rooms with audio/visual equipment, proximity to a major conference center and the Onassis Cultural Centre. The Hilton, which enjoyed a makeover for the 2004 Olympic games, has an added component of offering web-based organizing and event planning tools. Each guest room grants you high speed internet, a desk with an ergonomic chair, and a window overlooking either the Acropolis or the mountains of Attica. The rooftop Galaxy Bar is considered one of the best in the city and business lunch is offered at a reasonable price at the hotel's restaurant, Milo's. Along with the Divani Caravel, these hotels are very near Sofias Avenue where the majority of Embassies and several ministry buildings are located; for that reason they're the hotels preferred by those with diplomatic missions.

The Royal Olympic offers eighteen different meeting rooms each with distinct styles designed to meet a variety of needs from its users. Wifi is complementary and advertised as strong throughout the hotel, but it would be a pity not to spend just a little time in the elegant business center. Secretarial services are offered by the hotel.

For business travelers looking to stretch money and efficiency, we recommend the Metropolitan, farther down Syngrou Avenue than the InterContinental making it perfect for business or travel to the Port of Piraeus. Beaches are close at hand. Should you prefer a boutique hotel that's still well equipped in amenities, the Callirhoe is a solid choice with four conference rooms and on staff secretarial and interpreter services. We've also heard rave reviews about Centrotel for its cleanliness, low prices, and convenience in location.

The Sofitel and the Holiday Inn are both very near to the airport, the Sofitel being literally across the airport parking lot. Of the two, the Sofitel is the one we've chosen for our list of best business hotels as the nearby metro gives easy access to the city and more amenities are included within the price of a room.
