Top 10:

Athens Luxury Hotels

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Our top ten list of Athens' best luxury hotels feature the most decadent resorts and hotels the city and its surrounding areas have to offer. Though some are central to the city, many branch out to the more beautiful areas of the Attic coastline or the shady green of the northern suburbs. These are the hotels worthy of dedicating at least a day or two to the art of hanging out and soaking up the opulence.

When choosing a top luxury hotel in Athens you first have to make a difficult decision: city or seaside. Those who pick city will delight in days filled with sightseeing and countless options of bars, restaurants, and cultural events. If this sounds like your idea of heaven, the Grande Bretagne or the King George Palace will be the perfect fit. If you really want to live it up, choose one of the superior suites in the GB that offer the added feature of a private butler. The Royal Suite in the King George has its very own swimming pool and is the favorite room of celebrities like the Clintons and Madonna. Overall, the GB is more traditional and the King George, more personal. For a slightly more suburban experience, head to the aristocratic grandeur of the Pentelikon, the sort of Imperial style hotel that Agatha Christie mysteries are set in. The hotel's French restaurant, Vardis, is one of the best in the city. The boutique hotel, Life Gallery, will appeal more to those with a more modern aesthetic; the hotels furnishings were designed by heavyweights like Armani Casa, Gervasoni, Bang & Olufsen, and Ivano Redaell. We'd like to make mention of Kifissia's other knockout hotel, the Semiramis. We would certainly call it number eleven but its far out decor by lead designer, Karim Rashid, also give it limited appeal.

Now for the sandy shangri-las: Dwellers of the resorts along the Attic coast don't mind the remote locations. In fact, that was the idea. Our first choice is either of the hotels that make up the Astir Palace Resort, the Arion and the Westin. We can't wait until the arrival of the areas third hotel, the W hotel. All three back up to ideal stretches of private beach and azure waters. The Westin has the city's best Japanese restaurant by acclaimed chef, Nobu Matsuhisa.
