Combine your cave exploration with a visit to the nearby Vorres Museum which is also in Peania. Or you can continue on to the Attica Zoological Park. Speliologists can learn more about Greece's caves at http://www.speleologicalsociety.gr/caves.html

  • Description:

    • Koutouki Cave is located on the eastern slope of Mount Ymittos, 4 kilometers from the town of Peania. It was discovered by accident some years ago when a goat fell into the cave through a hole in its roof. A shepherd climbed in to rescue the animal and discovered one of Europe's most beautiful caves. Nowadays, visitors can enter the cave through a tunnel to admire the impressively illuminated stalagmites and stalactites and curtains of rock. A guided tour of the cave starts every 30 minutes. The cave is about an hour's drive from downtown Athens.
