Description:
- A visit to the Tomb of the Athenian Warriors at Marathon or the pine-studded sand beach of Schinias should be extended to include Ramnous. This ancient city, that prospered during the 5th century BC, overlooks the Aegean Sea. It was protected by a fortress and featured a theatre, a gymnasium and other public buildings, the remains of which have been unearthed. Several beautifully decorated graves have also been discovered. Visitors can see the ruins of two temples built in the 5th century, one of which is dedicated to the goddess Nemesis. Unfortunately, the remainder of the site is closed to visitors due to ongoing excavation works.
