I think the best place to stay in Athens is in the centre of the city, because of the big choice for buses and underground stops and beacause most of the popular monuments and places of interest are close to the centre. Try to find a hotel in www.booking.com, you will find very nice hotels.

I suggest The Athens Plaza or the Grande Brittania, both bordering Syntagma Square - or the Hilton, next to the National Art Museum.

Personally because I don't like city centers and yet I want
to be able to get to town quickly and also to see the sights which many are in the centre, I would choose either
the Intercontinental or the Ledra Marriot or the Metropolitan.All of these are on Syngrou Avenue. There is
plenty transportation facilities and they are center but not
dead center.

If you want to stay in the city center, nothing beats Grande Bretagne. It is a 5 star hotel, worthy of all its stars :) Also check King George, Athens Imperial and Baby Grand classical.

A four star option is hotel Titania,Esperia and Electra Palace.

These are all city hotels. Resort hotels are more than an hour's drive to the city center but they are amazing. Check Grecotel Cape Sounion, The Westin in Asteras Vouliagmenis and Lagonissi Grand Resort.

If you plan to visit more than one place perhaps the Grecotel chain of hotels can help you in a total booking as they have hotels all over Greece.

hi,for me the best stay in athens is in hilton,it s modern and light and you dont feel that everyone there has swallowed a bud,like other serious luxury hotels.now if you like a resort,lagonissi hotel is very nice and you can enjoy clear sea and some nature,it s not far from the airport but it s far from the center of the city(you have to use a cab).enjoy.

Well it depends on the kind of your trip. If you want to see downtown, try a hotel near downtown (like Hilton or Caravel) but not in the central area of downtown (not extremely safe for a tourist in terms of petty thefts).
On the other hand if you don't mind longer distances and you want some peace and quiet there are some amazing hotels along seaside near Glyfada, Voula and Vouliagmeni (in Vouliagmeni there is Hotel Asteras, great hotel...).
