Godfrey Barnsley conceived the idea for Barnsley Gardens and had it built in the 1800s in memory of his wife Julia. The estate consists of 39 cottages of various sizes, a luxurious spa, and two restaurants. Set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Barnsley Gardens is an excellent retreat from the stresses of daily life. The resort's restaurant, spa, gardens, and museum are also available to people who wish to stop by for the day. Bring your pet. Some of the cottages are pet-friendly. Snuggle up in front of a fire in the winter. Smell the flowers in the spring and summer, and see the gorgeous colors in the fall. The resort is a great destination any time of the year.
