- Charis was perhaps a bit ahead of its time 25 years ago when it first opened its doors as a decidedly feminist bookstore. Today, the full-stocked fiction and non-fiction shelves run the gamut of subjects, but still are decidedly geared toward feminists. Gay and lesbian related writings are particularly well represented. You'll also find a fairly good selection of children's titles, as well as an assortment of gift items such as music, jewelry and T-shirts.
