Answered by Amy Moorhouse , Atlanta, United States
Georgia got its nick name and is known as the “Peach State” because of the growers' reputation for producing the highest quality fruit. The peach became the official state fruit in 1995. Today Georgia grows over 40 varieties of peach commercially. Although Georgia is called the Peach State it actually ranks third in production behind California. And not to mention, there are over 50 streets in Atlanta with the word Peach in them.
